singing lessons with

Fiona Tong

Fiona is a phenomenal teacher who ‘got’ our son from the off, taking him through three grade exams in two years - with distinction in two of them. She encouraged, she supported and she always wanted the best results but, just as importantly, she wanted him to love singing. He did and he still does.
— Ben - Amersham

Welcome!

Why sing? Singing is fundamental to musical education and brain development, encouraging confidence and greater expression. Singing has hugely positive effects on our well-being, releasing happy hormones as well as being an outlet for creativity and success. Singing is widely regarded as an important and impressive co-curricular activity, demanding attention at school applications and potentially resulting in increased UCAS points.

Younger Singers

Children in year 2 and above can start working towards ABRSM or Trinity graded singing exams. These lower grades are age-appropriate and fun for young children. Experiencing and passing a music exam is a huge confidence boost.

Older Singers

As students develop in confidence and technique, they can progress through grades 3-5 and perhaps try for music scholarships, awards and competitive music festivals. These are highly regarded in school applications and promote important life skills.

All three of my boys have loved their singing lessons with Fiona and have made great progress. She is a wonderful teacher, full of enthusiasm and the boys always come out with a big smile on their face!

What’s next ?

Older children can be ambitious in their musical aspirations and work towards ABRSM or Trinity grades 6-8 and further qualifications. There is an opportunity to earn UCAS points with exams at this level. Some children may wish to apply for Choral Scholarships to Oxford and Cambridge or other universities. Confident performers will want to enter singing competitions.

Sophia has improved so much and a number of parents have commented on her confident singing... she absolutely loves her lessons.

What’s On Offer ?

I teach music theory (written musical language) alongside my beginner singing lessons. Learning to read music is fun and a fantastic skill to have. It will speed up progress in singing and when learning other instruments, as well as being a useful insight before taking GCSE or A Level music.

Children can sing for fun and confidence building alone, or take graded exams, too.

Singing exams are designed to develop life skills such as communication, self expression, self confidence as well as developing the musician within.

ABRSM (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) and Trinity exam boards are respected throughout the world. Qualifications from here are well worth having!

I feel so lucky to have found Fiona as Caitlyn’s singing teacher....Despite being quite timid, Caitlyn has made impressive progress in less than a year.

About Me

I am passionate about helping children realise their singing ambitions.

I studied singing at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama and The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. As well as graduating with a First-Class (Hons) degree in music, I won numerous competitions and prizes, most notably: The Countess of Munster Musical Trust, The Ian Fleming Award, The Crompton Lied Award and first prize in the John Warner Memorial Competition. My performing career as a soloist (Fiona Hammacott- Soprano) has taken me to Tokyo and Hanoi in the Far East as well as The Barbican and The Royal Albert Hall closer to home.

I have been teaching singing for the past 12 years and my students have achieved Distinction in grade 8 singing, won places in The National Youth Choir of Great Britain, been awarded music scholarships, won competitive music festivals and had lots of fun along the way!

I am a full member of AOTOS (The Association of Teachers of Singing) and ISM (The Independent Society for Musicians) and have an Enhanced Certificate from the Disclosure and Barring service.
